Accomplishments
Julián Hernández directs film, theater and opera. His films and videos have screened at festivals in Mexico, the United States and Europe, including Berlin, the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, Mix Mexico, and the Schwule Filmwoche in Freiburg. In 2002, he directed his debut feature film Mil nubes de paz. He received funding from the Hubert Bals Fund for development of his second feature film. Hernández studied film at the Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos (CUEC), and opera at the Escuela Libre de Música.

Julián Hernández’s El Cielo Divido | Broken Sky, the story of a young gay couple in Mexico City whose relationship is soured by affairs with other men, received its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in February and screened in competition at the Guadalajara International Film Festival in March. The film will be released theatrically in the fall. Mexico
