He co-wrote and co-directed the animated short Sin sostén, which screened at Cannes and received numerous national and international awards. His short film Hasta los huesos premiered at the Annecy Animation Film Festival and screened in festivals in Mexico and abroad, including Huesca, Toronto and Biarritz. The film received an Ariel Award, among other honors. Castillo studied communications at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO) in Guadalajara.
